My Father, the CIA, and Me
A Memoir . . . of Sorts
by Ian Cron
This book is excellent. It is a true story about the life of author Ian Crons, although he does admit to some fictional aspects as memories fade.
Ian's family has been through poverty and now they live in prosperity in the United States of America. Ian's father works for the CIA and from pictures he finds, he sees his father being photographed with famous celebrities and the president. His mother will not explain any of this to him. Ian has always thought that he father is a stockbroker, but finds out his true career when he is sixteen.
When Ians father slides into a deep depression, his mother struggles to support the family. Ian is often left with the familys caring nanny, who teaches Ian some valuable life lessons.
Ian's father is an alcoholic and unfortunatly Ian also turns to alcohol. Over time he begins to resemble his father in more ways than one. He is in denial about his problems and it takes him a long time to realize he needs help.
This book is heartbreaking, and I give Ian kudos for publishing his life story. This probably was very different to remember and write down his past, but I can imagine his story gives hope to many people.
